Victory at Trenton
Famous American victory that began with "Washington Crossing the Delaware." Actually, the whole army crossed the Delaware River, which was frozen in places, on Christmas night, 1776, from Pennsylvania to the outskirts of Trenton, New Jersey.
On August 27, 1776 British armies fought the Continental Army. The colonists had 1407 deaths and the British only had 377 deaths. General Washington was forced to retreat.
The British hoped to defeat the Patriots by taking control of NY Hudson River valley which would allow the British to cut off vital resources from their enemies causing them to collapse.
