Reading Test Strategies

How do I maintain my stamina throughout the test so I can do my best?

• Sit for the entire time and don't ever stop.

• Go one passage set at a time. Take a break after 1 or 2 passage sets to stay focused!

• Take a break after every 6 questions, even if there are 8 questions in a passage set!

• Answer 1 question then lay your head down. You've earned it.

Which of these is the FIRST thing you do when you use the "READ" strategy?

• Read closely and thoughtfully

• Explain what the text was about

• Analyze and annotate your thinking with the questions

• Decide on the best answer and prove it with text evidence

After you read the title of a test selection or passage, you should.....

What does a reader need to look for when determining the Main Idea?

• What it's mostly about and supporting details
