Lab Safety Questions

Why is it important to follow the lab safety procedures? EXPLAIN

If you do not understand a direction or part of a lab procedure, you should

• skip it and go on to the next part.

• ask the instructor before proceeding

• try several methods until something works

• figure it out as you do the lab

Matt was thirsty so he drank some liquid from a beaker because it looked like water. Safe or Unsafe? EXPLAIN!

What is the CORRECT procedure for students to follow if a chemical is spilled?

• Stand back and advise the teacher of the spill.

• Run madly out of the room.

• Splash large amounts of water onto the spill.

At the end of the lab you see some leftover chemical that looks just like the stuff you were using.  You should:

• put the chemical back in the jar it came from.

• sweep it into your hand and throw it out.
