A glacier is a large body of compressed snow. It moves very slowly over hundreds of years. As it moves, it can erode the ground it passes over. The following diagram shows four different tests. The tests show how ice moves over different materials: sand and clay.
A block of ice is added to each of the four trays. In Diagrams A and B, the blocks of ice have formed from water only.
