Answer explanation

You better have taken a glance at Mr. Slope guy to see the direction a positive slope (m) goes! Then find the y-intercept on the y-axis.

Slope = rise/run

Did you notice that the number labels on the x and y axis' went by 2's, but the grid marks actually went by 1's?

Which equation correctly represents the relationship between x and y?

y = 2x + 4

y = - 4x + 2

y = - 2x + 4

y = 4x + 2

Answer explanation

Media Image

y = mx + b m = slope = rise/run b = y-int

You did look at Mr. Slope Guy...right? This is clearly a line with a negative slope...so two of the equations are eliminated right away.

MULTIPLE CHOICE QUESTION

Trey has a plant.  He measures its growth once a week.  Which equation represents the height of the plant in inches, h, based on the number of weeks, w?

Hey...look closely at the h (y) axis...it goes by 2's. The w (x) axis goes by 1's. Crazy. The slope of this thing is m = rise/run = 3/1 = 3

h = 2w + 3

h = 3w + 3

Answer explanation

Media Image

Ok...this is a really weird one cause of the axis labels and units. It's really hard to count off rise over run when the rise goes by 2's and the run goes by 1's.

Also...they through us another curve by using w for the independent variable instead of x, and h for the dependent variable instead of y. You can get this though!

That's enough of this one...either ya got it or ya don't. But ya do....right???? :-)

HOTSPOT QUESTION

1 min • 1 pt

Select the correct answers:

Identify three points that would be on the line

y = - x + 5

Hint...the slope m = rise/run = -1/1 = -1 (a hidden #)

Answer explanation

Media Image

Ok...the term -x is the same as -1x ... the slope is negative. Tell me you looked at Mr. Slope dude...his right eyebrow.

Your y-intercept is b=5 ... so mark that point first...then use the slope to find the others.
