Slope and a Point

Suppose we have a line with a slope of -3 and passes through the point (1,2). Solve for y-intercept (b) and write equation. y = mx + b

• y = -3x + 5 , m = -3 b = 5

• y = x + 1, m =1 b = -1

• y = 2x + 1 , m= 2 b= 1

• y = -3x -3, m = -3, b = -3

Suppose we have a line with a slope of 4 and passes through the point (5, 25).

Solve for y-intercept (b) and write equation.

y= mx + b

• y = 4x + 5 , m = 4 b = 5

• y =25x + 5, m =25 b= 5

• y = 4x + 25 , m= 4 b= 25

• y = 5/25x + 4, m = 5/25, b = 4

Suppose we have a line with a slope of 2 and passes through the point (1,3).

Solve for y-intercept (b) and write equation.

y = mx + b

• y = x + 2 , m = 1 b = 2

• y = 2x + 1, m =2 b= 1

• y = 1/3x + 1 , m= 1/3 b= 1

• y = 2x -2, m = 2, b = -2

• y = 5x + 5 , m = 5 b = 5

• y =3x + 2, m =3 b= 2
