What is the first step in the identification process?

• Parents complete a "Home language survey" and students are tested if there is a language other than English spoken at home.

• Parents request the program for their child to participate.

• Students pick a program to participate in.

• The teacher and school picks the program for student to participate in.

What is a difference between ESL and Dual Language (DL)?

• The goal of DL is for students to not learn English whereas the goal of ESL is for students to learn English.

• The goal of DL is for students to be bilingual and biliterate whereas the goal of ESL is for students to be English proficient.

• The goal of DL is for students to be bilingual whereas the goal of ESL is for students to only learn English.

How will you be notified of the program your child will participate in each year?

• A phone call from the front office.

• At Meet the Teacher night.

• A letter at the beginning of the year and end of the year.

• My child will let me know.

Why are TELPAS and STAAR important?

• Both tests help us know if they are learning English.

• They help us compare our children on a national level.

• They are not important at all.

• They help us understand how students are growing academically and linguistacally in English.
