"The Clever Merchant"

In a bustling market town, there lived a clever merchant named Jafar. Known for his quick wit and sharp business sense, Jafar always managed to make profitable deals. One day, a wealthy but dishonest trader named Kasim approached him with a proposition.

Kasim offered to sell Jafar a chest of exotic spices at a seemingly unbeatable price. Jafar, suspicious of Kasim’s intentions, decided to inspect the chest first. Upon close examination, he noticed that the chest was filled with common spices, with only a thin layer of the exotic ones on top.

Feigning interest, Jafar asked Kasim to return the next day to finalize the deal. That night, Jafar devised a plan to expose Kasim’s deceit. The following morning, as the townspeople gathered around, Jafar and Kasim met again. Jafar announced that he would test the spices by throwing a few handfuls into the wind. If the spices were truly exotic, their aroma would be unmistakable and would travel far.

Kasim, confident that Jafar wouldn't discover the truth, agreed. As Jafar threw the spices into the air, the strong wind carried them across the market. The townspeople, catching the scent of the common spices, began to murmur. Realizing his scheme was uncovered, Kasim tried to flee, but the crowd detained him. Jafar then revealed the true contents of the chest, and Kasim was forced to confess his deceit.

From that day on, Jafar’s reputation as a wise and fair merchant grew, while Kasim’s dishonest practices were shunned by all.

  1. What was Jafar’s main strategy to expose Kasim’s deceit?

  1. Confronting him directly

  1. Testing the spices in public

Inspecting the chest privately

Asking the townspeople for help

The Wolf and The Goat

A wolf saw a goat grazing at the edge of a high cliff. The wolf smacked his lips at the thought of a fine goat dinner.

“My dear friend,” said the wolf in his sweetest voice, “aren’t you afraid you will fall down from that cliff? Come down here and graze on this fine grass beside me on safe, level ground.”

“No, thank you,” said the goat.

“Well then,” said the wolf, “aren’t you cold up there in the wind? You would be warmer grazing down here beside me in this sheltered area.”

“No, Thank you,” said the goat.

“But the grass tastes better down here!” said the exasperated wolf,”Why dine alone?”

“My dear wolf,” the goat finally said, “are you quite sure that it is My dinner you are worrying about and not your own?”

What did the wolf ask when he saw the goat grazing at the edge of a high cliff?

To be his friend

To graze on the level ground

To climb up higher

To be his dinner
