What is Energy?

• • Energy: Ability to do work

• Energy is anything that takes up space

• Energy is a form/shape

Anything that takes up space, has form/shape. Can be a solid, liquid, or gas. An atom is a basic piece of this.

All matter is composed of this. Composed of a nucleus (+ charge) + electrons (- charges) which orbit around the nucleus. Nucleus (+) is composed of protons, neurons, + subatomic particles.

Radiation is capable of producing ions by removing or adding an electron to an atom.

Classified into 2 groups:

• Particulate radiation

• Electromagnetic radiation

Production of images of the teeth and adjacent structures by the exposure of film/receptor to rays.

Energy carried by waves or streams of particles

Beam of energy that has the power to penetrate substances and record image shadows on a photographic film/digital image

Photographic image produced on film by the passage of x-rays through teeth and related structures.
