1 The Captain says...

• Port ten

• Starboard five

• Port five

• Starboard ten

The helmsman may say...

• Wheel on port twenty, Sir.

• On port two zero.

• On starboard twenty, Sir.

• Port two zero.

The Captain may say...

• Ease to ten

• Port twenty

• Other answer: say it!

• Port, steer one hundred

The helmsman may repeat this way the order:

• Ease the wheel to one zero, Sir.

• Another one: say it!

• Ease the wheel to ten, Sir.

• Ease the wheel to ten, you silly man.

The order is...

• Another one: say it!

• Finished with the wheel

• Hard-a-starboard

• Port fifteen

The helmsman may answer...

• Steady on ten degrees, Sir.

• Port five, Sir.

• Starboard ten, Sir.

• Steady on zero degree, Sir.

The Captain's order is...

• Hard a starboard

• Ease to one five

• Nothing to port

• Ease to fifteen

There are no more steering operations... So the Captain says...

• Keep the beacon on port side

• All right, we are done.

• Midships

• A different answer: Say it!
