It means taking on responsibilities without being told or reminded to achieve family goals. Each one shares in the family's aspirations, successes, happiness, and cares particularly during times of distress and hardships.

This means doing something without being told. It is showing self-reliance in doing what needs to be done. Members who have the initiative in doing their duties are well-appreciated and can be relied upon especially when there is a peak load of activities at home.

Parents have so many things to attend to. Children should be considerate of their parents by doing what is expected of them. They should not give additional burden to their parents. Should there be a problem, everyone must help in finding a solution.

This could be during mealtime, outings, shopping, going to the movies, attending spiritual activities, and finding solutions to certain problems. Doing all these brings the members close to one another.

This means that the line of communication is always accessible to everyone. This provides opportunities for each member to express thoughts and feelings. It helps resolve conflicts fast and maintains understanding between and among the members. There should always be a time to listen.

A home where each member is treated equally is a happy one. This can be shown in many ways. It can be on the time allotted to each one for recreation such as viewing television programs, going out with friends, or sharing in household chores. Listening to each side when misunderstanding occurs proves that there is fairness in the home.

Filipinos are known for being hospitable. They are very good at entertaining visitors. They welcome relatives, friends and guests to their homes and make them feel comfortable.

Saying "po” and “opo,” talking in a well-modulated voice, listening to those who are talking, and kissing the hands, cheeks, or forehead of elders are proofs of respect for family members.
