Microcontrollers are a great platform for programming and implementation of sensor nodes, where events are detected or triggered by a sensor, and an action is performed based on that event.

Advantages of the Arduino microcontroller include their small size and low power requirements. When paired with sensors or actuators, microcontrollers can be programmed to act based on triggers.

In lab 01, we will measure the soil moisture and publish the measurements on the serial monitor.

The soil moisture sensor is used to measure the volumetric water content of the soil. The metal part of the sensor is the part that is in contact with the soil.

The soild moisture sensor is an analogue sensor. This means that the sensor will send the node (Arduino) a voltage between 0V and 5V. If the moisture level is high, the voltage that is sent will be high voltage, and vice versa, if the moisture level is low, the voltage that is sent will be a low voltage.
