The characters actions in the story the “Bells of Atri” support the theme, “help those who have helped you.” In paragraph 10, it says, This horse has served you well, He has saved you from many a peril. He has helped you gain your wealth.” This shows how the horse has helped the knight by escaping death and also supported him in making money. Also in paragraph 10, the judges say, “ Therefore, we order that your gold should be set aside to buy his shelter and food, … in his old age”. This demonstrates that the knight did not treat his horse well and was punished because he should have shown the horse the same consideration the horse has shown him.  Therefore, people should help each other the same and show consideration and respect, especially when it has been shown to them.
