2. Read this text and choose the best option according to the character's opinion.

Lights out!

Last week, we went on a school trip. I love school trips! They are so interesting and fun! This time, we went to the EDF Energy Visitor Center, a power station. A super cool guide told us everything about energy resources. Fortunately, we didn’t have to take notes. He gave us a complete brochure with the most important information.

We started with a documentary film. I couldn’t believe my eyes! We are destroying our planet. So I decided I had to do something. This material was going to be of great help.

We loved the EDF Energy Visitor Center experience.

We didn't get much interest in the topic.

THE ENERGY WORLD

Energy

The energy sources we use can be renewable or non-renewable.

Renewable means that the sources can be replaced by nature. For example, forests are renewable natural resources, but they must be treated with care. Wind and water are renewable sources too.

Non-renewable means the opposite. Nature can’t replace the sources that are used to produce this kind of energy. For example, oil is non-renewable.

Renewable Energy

Renewable energy comes from things we don’t easily run out of. It is also called “green energy” because it is eco-friendly, so it doesn’t pollute the air or the water.

There are several types of renewable energy:

  • Wind Power
In windy places, wind turbines can be used to generate electricity.

  • Solar Power
Solar panels can be used to produce electricity. One hour of sunlight has the potential to produce energy to power 2,880 trillion light bulbs.

  • Hydropower
Energy can be generated from water when it’s running fast.

  • Biomass Energy
Natural materials such as trees, plants and garbage also can be used to make electricity.

  • Geothermal Energy
Natural heat from under the Earth’s surface can be used to produce electricity.

  • Non-renewable Energy

Petroleum, coal, natural gas and nuclear energy are non-renewable resources. Currently, this is the type of energy that we use to power most electric devices at home. This type of energy is very bad for the environment and one day non-renewable resources will be gone. Fortunately, there are more and more technologies that can help us produce renewable energy.
