Reflection - Convex mirror

• diverge light outward away from a focal point

• known as converging mirrors
  

• sometimes referred to
  as a diverging mirror (spread out)

• converge light toward a central focal point

The image produced from a convex mirror will have the
following characteristics

• a virtual image

• an upright image
  

• reduced in size (smaller than the object)

• Reflecting telescopes

Convex mirrors are used in the following ways

• sideview or rearview mirror in cars

• convenient stores/grocery stores

• roadways with sharp turns

• Concave mirrors always form virtual images
• Concave mirrors cannot form magnified images
• Concave mirrors can only form diminished images
• known as converging mirrors
