A signal from the stage manager to actor, stage crew, props manager, or lighting
technician that some predetermined action, such as an entrance, sound effects, scenery
change, or lighting change, is required. Also used by actors to mean the line immediately
before their own.

and shape and the amount and position of sound-absorbing and reflecting material. The
quality of sound in a given space, measured and analyzed by its clarity, loudness, liveliness,

How the volume of a sound alters, it can be faded in (gradually made louder), or faded
out (gradually made quieter). Might be used to start or stop an effect or to alter the sound level
in response to the action on stage.

Converts sound into electric pulses, can then be amplified or
recorded.

Send a radio signal, so do not need to be directly
connected to a sound system. Very small, give actor freedom to perform without
holding a microphone or having any cables attached - amplified with no visible means
of connection. Some have a clip to attach to clothing, or are attached to a headset or
headband. Microphone head, transmitter pack with batteries, aerial and mains receiver
unit.

Are microphones that are designed to be held in the
hand, but they can also be clipped onto a microphone stand whilst someone sings,
gives a speech, plays guitar etc.

provided with its own control channel through which sound signals are routed into two
or more outputs.

Thorough test of sound system before a performance. Checking each
speaker cabinet individually, and each playback device. Each instrument played in turn
for sound engineer to check and fine-tune.
