Mapping Earth

There are many kinds of maps, such as road maps, trail maps, and weather maps. Each type contains different types of information and serves a different purpose.

Define Map view:

• drawn as if you were looking down on an area

• drawn as if you are looking at an entire area from a parallel view

• drawn as if you are looking at a high riser building from its side

• drawn as if you are looking at a boat from the bottom

Reading Maps

To find your way to a specific place, you need a way to determine where you are on the surface of the earth.

Define Longitude:

• It is the distance from the Equator to the northernmost tip of the earth.

• The distance covered between each of the imaginary lines running from east to west.

• The distance in degrees north or south of the prime meridian.

• The distance in degrees east or west of the prime meridian.

Reading Maps

To find your way to a specific place, you need a way to determine where you are on the surface of the earth.
