Dinosaur Battles

A carnivorous dinosaur from the Late Jurassic period found in North America.  It weighed two tons and was about 35 feet in length.  It had larger arms than some carnivorous dinosaurs and it probably used them to grab its prey.  It had a powerful bite with teeth 2 to 4 inches long.  It also had sharp, curved claws up to 7 inches long on each hand and foot.  It was probably an ambush predator that went for the throat of its prey.  It had two horn-like structures above its eyes. Stegosaurus was one of its prey animals.

This carnivorous dinosaur lived during the Late Cretaceous period and is found in North America.  It was one of the largest eating meating dinosaurs to have ever lived.  It measured 40 feet in length and weighed about 9 tons.  It had a massive skull and teeth that measured about 12 inches long.  It had very small forearms.  Its eyesight was exceptional and provided it with good depth perception.  Scientists are still not sure if it had feathers, but it had relatives that did. Triceratops was one of its prey animals.

A large carnivorous dinosaur that lived during the Late Cretaceous period and is found in Asia.  It is closely related to another large meat eater and is sometimes considered an Asian version of T. Rex.  It grew up to 40 feet in length and weighed about 6 tons.  It had a massive skull and teeth that were up to 8 inches long.  It has small forearms like the T. Rex.  One difference from other dinosaurs is that it had a unique locking mechanism in its lower jaw.  This may have allowed it to hold onto prey better.  Ankylosaurus was one of its prey.

A large carnivorous dinosaur that lived during the Late Cretaceous period and is found in South America.  It was 30 feet long and weighed about 2 tons.  It has a narrow snout filled sharp teeth.  An unusual thing about this dinosaur is that its forearms were virtually nonexistent.  Another unusual feature is the two “bull horns” on either side of its head.  One of its prey was the Saltasaurus.

It was a herbivorous dinosaur with plate structures that formed two upright lines along its back that lived during the Late Jurassic period and in found in North America.  Scientists are not sure of their purpose.   This dinosaur's front legs were shorter than its back legs.  This gave it an arched back appearance.  Its skill and brain were very small for such a large animal.  It was about 21 feet long and weighed about 7 tons.  It’s primary weapon was a spiked tail called a thagomizer. Allosaurus was one of its predators.

This herbivorous dinosaur lived during the Late Cretaceous period and is found in North America.  It had a three-horned face and a large bony frill (a shield-like covering that extended from the back of its head).  This frill served as protection for the dinosaur and might have been used to regulate its temperature.  It grew to 30 feet in length and weighed up to 13 tons.  It had one of the largest skulls of all dinosaurs.  Tyrannosaurus Rex was one its predators.

A herbivorous dinosaur that lived in the Late Cretaceous period and is found in North America.    It is best known for its heavily armored body and large bony club at the end of its tail.  It grew to 30 feet in length and weighed about 7 tons.  Its armor protected it from most predators.  The bony club at the end of its tail made an effective weapon.  Tarbosaurus was one of its predators.

A large herbivorous dinosaur that lived during the Late Cretaceous period and is found in South America.  It was a member of the sauropod family, which includes some of the largest animals to have ever walked the Earth.  It was 40 feet long and weighed about 8 tons.  It has a long neck and tail, and it walked on all fours.  It was one of the first sauropods discovered with bony armor. Carnotaurus was one of it predators.
