In simple past we use:

• Verbs in the base form

Regular verbs that end in "e" like "close" we add:

• "d"

• "ed"

• "ied"

Regular verbs that end in "y" like "cry" we remove "y" and add:

• "s"

• "d"

• "ed"

• "ied"

Regular verbs like "plan", "shop", "stop" and "drop" we:

• Double the consonant and add "ed"

• Add "ied"

• Add "ed"

• Add "d"

We use the
auxiliary "did not" or "didn't" to make the negative form.
