Plastik berupa kemasan makanan atau plastik sekali pakai kerap kali dianggap tak bernilai setelah digunakan, akibatnya sampahnya tidak terkelola dengan baik. Dari hasil survei Katadata Insight Center (KIC), kesadaran masyarakat untuk memilah plastik dari sampah rumah tangga masih rendah, yakni pada kisaran 22% dari total responden rumah tangga yang memang telah memilah sampahnya. Data ini diperkuat oleh Asosiasi Industri Olefin Aromatik dan Plastik Indonesia (INAPLAS) yang menyebutkan bahwa tingkat daur ulang dari sampah plastik di Indonesia saat ini baru 17%. Karena itu, upaya peningkatan dalam pengelolaan sampah plastik perlu didorong melalui pendekatan ekonomi sirkular.
