What is the mammalian diving reflex

• at the surface, mammals have a high plus rate and metabolism at full speed. when they dive their pulse rate slows down and blood flow diverts from the muscles to sensitive organs like heart and brain

•    at the surface where the pressure is low marine mammals consume less oxygen and when they dive they consume more oxygen

•    at the surface mammals have a high plus rate but low oxygen consumption, when they dive the plus rate remains high but they consume less oxygen
