The Moon

This occurs when the moon is in its full phase.  The Earth is perfectly positioned between the Moon and the Sun and this causes Earth’s shadow to fall upon the surface of the Moon.  Sometimes the shadow turns the Moon’s surface red.  They can be partial or total.

The first crewed Moon landing.  Other spacecraft had flown by, been purposefully crashed into the moon, or had landed on the Moon, but this was the first time people walked on the surface of the Moon.  The crew consisted of pilot Michael Collins, Edwin “Buzz” Aldrin, and Neil Armstrong.  Armstrong was the first person on the moon, Aldrin was the second.  Collins did not step on the Moon.

This mission was a launch and test flight of the space vehicle that will take astronauts to the moon.  It was launched on November 16, 2022.  This vehicle orbited the moon and returned to Earth.

This mission will land a crew on the Moon’s south polar region.  It is planned to have two astronauts spend a week on the Moon’s surface.  The mission will land the first woman on the Moon and the first person of color.
