EDI standards are

• essential for B2B commerce

• not required for B2B commerce

EDI requires

• representation of common business documents in computer readable forms

• data entry operators by receivers

• special value added networks

By Electronic Commerce we mean:

• Commerce which depends on electronics

• Commerce which is based on the use of internet

• Commerce which is based on transactions using computers connected by telecommunication network

The document standards for EDI were first developed by large business house during the 1970s and are now under the control of the following standard organization.
