SHC science Lab safety rules

Personal protection equipment is

• Is worn all the time

• Is worn when an experiment is being done

• Is never worn

Safety Equipment includes:

• paper towel, rubbish bin

• hand wash,

  face mask

• eyewash, fire blanket

• drink tap,

  first aid kit

Food in the laboratory can

• be eaten anytime in the lab

• can be eaten at the table

• can be eaten anywhere in the lab

• cannot be eaten in the lab

When in the laboratory you should

• Remove loose clothing and tie back long hair

• Remove loose clothing and let long hair be loose

• Leave loose clothing on and tie back long hair

• Leave loose clothing on and hair loose

When instructions are given you should:

• Not listen carefully

• Listen carefully

• Follow some of the instructions

• Follow none of the instructions

Safe behaviour in the laboratory includes

• running around the room

• Splashing chemicals on the floor

• Taking equipment from other groups

• Checking the Bunsen burner hose for cracks

When cleaning up the room you should NOT

• Wipe down the benches

• Wash your hands with soap

• Leave spills on the floor

• Hang up coats and glasses

Safety rules in the lab include

• Sitting on the lab bench

• Sitting on chairs during experiments

• Using the sink for rubbish disposal

• Using PPE when directed
