The Acadians: The Great Upheaval
The Acadians were French settlers who lived in Acadia. Today this area is part of Nova Scotia in Canada. Beginning in 1755, Acadians were sent away by the British. The Acadians brought their language, religion, traditions, music and ways of living to their new homes. The first Acadian families arrived in Louisiana in 1764, settling near the Atchafalaya swamp.
