His best known work is probably The Hungry Caterpillar, which has selled over 44 million copies worldwide. The book, like many of his other works, feature colorful collages of creatures and things to create these collages, Carle would first paint tissue paper. Next, he would cut shapes out of the painted paper. After that, he would assemble the cutouts to form new things, like a bare or a ladybug. If your interested in seeing some of his original artwork, you should visit the Eric Carle Museum of Picture Book Art in Amherst Massachusetts.
