Professor Friendly wanted to investigate if using red font in his slideshows would improve student examination performance. He used his two psychology classes and said that they had to participate in the study as part of the course requirements. Professor Friendly recruited a total of 150 students, 70 in one class and 80 in another. He gave the same lecture to both classes, but one class had the slides presented in red writing and the other in black writing (control). His found that in the examinations, there was a difference between the two groups with the red font group performing at a lower level than the black font group ( p 0.06 ).
