Halim's class, Year Six Neptune, had a lesson about the problems faced by the planet we live on, the Earth. The students wanted to know why the earth is getting warmer. They also wanted to know they can help protect it.

Their science teacher, Cikgu Zulkifli, explained to them that the earth is being spoilt by the actions of man. He said that it is very important for human beings to realise what they are doing wrong and to correct their mistakes.

Who is spoiling the Earth?

The next day, Cikgu Zulkifli took them around the school compound to plant a few trees. They enjoyed this activity. Then, he stated that it is good to take care of the natural vegetation. He told them that cutting down trees destroys the environment. Paper is made from wood obtained from trees. To stop cutting down trees, he asked the students to do simple things like writing on both sides to reduce the use of paper. Using less paper means reducing the number of trees being cut down.

What activity did the students do in the school?

Cikgu Zulkifli told the students that there are things they can do at home every day. Saving electricity is one way. He asked them not to use gadgets like hairdryers, irons, vacuums cleaners and blenders unnecessarily. Azlan, one of the students, said that his parents told him and his siblings that they should not waste water too. All the students in the class became very concerned. They promised to do whatever they can to help save the planet.
