Brian faces two choices to land the plane. He can wait for the plane to run out of fuel and fall, or he can push the throttle in and try to land it. How does he assess those choices, and which choice does he make?

• Even though he knows there is no way he can land the plane and will probably die like the pilot, he decides to land in a cluster of soft pine trees.
