Do you think that Meeting Cezanne is a suitable title for the story? Why or
why not?
Writing the story from Yannick’s point of view makes the story more
interesting. This is because the innocence and inquisitiveness of a child better
depict the humility of the artist and also the suspense that comes about
because of the ignorance of the boy make for an interesting read.
The title is suitable because it does its bit to maintain the suspense
built around the artist. The artist was a special customer and through the text
was thought to be by both readers and the speaker to be Cezanne. It was only
at the end that it becomes apparent that the artist is actually Pablo Picasso
and not Cezanne. Even then, Picasso in all his humility accords due respect to
Cezanne when he realises the misunderstanding.
