"...the kind that would shatter a lawnmower blade if the Brophys ever cut their grass..."

Why did Isaiah say that?

• The Brophys lawnmower is broken.

• The Brophys never mow their lawn.

• The Brophys lawn is well kept.

• The Brophys lawnmower blade was shattered by the rock.

• The Brophys cut their lawn very often.

"...and hunker down low."

Why did they do that?

• ...because the rock and the tall grass would help to hide them.

• ...because they were sitting down, with their knees bent.

• ...because they were going to be there for a long time.

• ...because they were afraid, and didn't know what else to do.

• ...because the cat and the bird were chasing them.

"...batting their fuzzy noggins with the soft pad..."

What does that mean?

• hitting their nests with his foot

• hitting their tummies with his foot

• hitting their backs with his foot

• hitting their heads with his foot

• hitting their drinks with his foot

"He's playing Cat and Mouse with them..."

How does that work, when they are birds?

• It is just a game, whether they are birds or mice.

• Lucifer thinks that the baby birds are mice.

• Life is just one cruel game, to an evil cat, like Lucifer.

• The baby birds are pretending to be mice.

• Mikayla and Isaiah wanted to play with them.

"They're just babies...They can't defend themselves."

Why does Mikayla say that? What does she mean?

• Since they are babies, they can't defend themselves.

• She thinks that they should go up there and protect them.

• The cat should be playing with adults.

• Lucifer should pick on somebody his own size.

• Someone needs to help them.

Who goes to help the babies first?

• Isaiah

• Mikayla

• Hailee

• Gwindell

• Mommy Bird

How do they stop Lucifer from batting the baby birds?

• They flap their arms around, and pretend to be birds.

• They offer Lucifer some cream horns.

• They throw acorns at Lucifer.

• They get Mommy Bird to go after Lucifer.

• They draw Lucifer's attention to them.

What was Mikayla supposed to be doing, while Isaiah got Lucifer to leave the baby birds alone?

• going to Hailey's

• running back to the burrow

• singing

• hiding

• getting help

What does Isaiah tell the baby birds to do, while he and Mikayla get Lucifer away from them.

• Run!

• Fly!

• Scream!

• Duck!

• Hide!

Why doesn't Mikayla want to split up?

• ...because she doesn't want Isaiah to be caught.

• ...because she doesn't want to be caught.

• ...because they are family.

• ...because they will get lost.

• ...because she likes to hang out with Isaiah.
