1 People are mammals with two legs that live on land. Dolphins are mammals, too, but they have no legs and live in the water. Like people, dolphins are smart mammals.

Mothers and babies call to each other. Dolphins even call other dolphins to tell them where food is. 3 Some people have been learning about dolphins for a long time. Every year, they learn more about how dolphins communicate. There is still much that we do not know. Maybe one day we will know how to talk with dolphins. The Soccer Game

1 Sergio woke up bright and early on Saturday morning. He was so excited! Today was the most important day of the summer. Today was the day of the big game. If they won today, his team would be in first place.

2 After Sergio got dressed, he ran downstairs. He ate a good breakfast of cereal, toast, and juice. He even took his vitamin without being told to. Sergio's mother always had to remind him, but not today. Sergio was so excited that he forgot about drinking his lucky drink. His hot chocolate sat on the counter and turned cold.

3 Sergio was about to leave the house when the telephone rang. It was his coach, Mrs. Pele. She told Sergio that the soccer game had been canceled because of rain. The two teams would play again in two weeks. Coach Pele said she had some new plays to teach her team. Before she said good-bye, Coach Pele reminded Sergio about practice on Monday.

4 Sergio put the phone down and took off his shoes. He asked his mother to reheat his lucky drink. Maybe that would help his day get better.

A Game for Rainy Days

1 On rainy days, I like to play games inside. I have a new game. My uncle gave it to me. He played it when he was a child. It is called Pick-up Sticks.

2 The game is simple. There are lots of thin, colored sticks. They are six inches long. You hold the sticks in the air. Then you let them fall in a pile. Now you must pick out one stick at a time from the pile. You cannot move the other sticks. If you do, you lose your turn.

3 My uncle says Native Americans invented the game. They would play it with wheat straw. My sticks are not made from wheat. They are plastic sticks. When my uncle was young, he played the game with wooden sticks.

4 Pick-up Sticks is a hard game to play. You have to go slowly or the sticks will move. My uncle is helping me to get better at it. Soon I will beat him!

A Play House

I am building a little house with Abe and Eddie. They are my best friends. To find our little house, you have to go to the end of the corn field. Then walk next to the lake. When you see the oak tree, you are almost there. Abe, Eddie and I go there whenever we can. We take pieces of wood or metal so we can build more. We are building a little shelf. Probably we will put some cups for water and our toys on it. When we are not building, we like to play games. We play marbles or cards. I have little cars that we race. Sometimes we make boats and race them in the lake. If it is a hot day, we swim. The best thing is listening to Eddie. His stories make us laugh and laugh!

The Car Race

I like to play video games. My mom lets me play for an hour if I've been good. I have to do my homework

and chores first. Then I can play.

One of my favorite games is a car race. Each player chooses his or her own car. When the race starts,

you push the first button to make your car move. Then you have to steer by moving the joystick. It is hard to do

both at the same time. There are lots of cars in the race. You earn points when you finish the course.

The course gets more difficult each time you finish one. The first course is a racetrack. The second

course is a dirt track. The third course is made of ice and is very slippery.

I like my new game and play it as often as I can. I make sure that my work is done and that I don't get into

trouble. That way, Mom lets me play more often. I am getting very good at it!
