When might you use a flat wash?

What’s the definition of negative space?

• The space around the object

• The space taken up by the object

What’s the definition of negative space painting?

• Instead of painting the object you paint the space not taken up by the objects first

• You paint the parts of the picture you don’t like as much first

• You paint the space taken up by the object before painting the space around it

Define a variegated wash

• A wash of flat colour

• When you put different washes in different parts of the painting

How do you ‘glaze’ with watercolours?
