Cells are the basic unit of structure and function in all living things. This means that cells and parts of cells help organisms do the things that allow us to live. Cells, forms tissues, that form organs, that form organ systems. Each organ system has special cells that help carry out the specific function of the system.
For example, the neuron is a special cell in the nervous system (brain, spinal cord, nerves). The structure of a neuron allows the cells to pass or transmit information to other nerve cells, muscle, or gland cells. Most neurons have a cell body, an axon, and dendrites.
