Sources of ignition that could cause fuel vapors in aircraft fuel tanks to ignite:

• Friction sparks or heat, hot surface ignition

• Hot surface ignition, fuel pump

• Electrical spark, bonding cable

What is airworthiness limitations (AWL);

• All Weather Landing systems

• Any component which limits the airworthiness of the aircraft

• Directives mandated maintenance and inspection requirements to ensure unsafe conditions do not occur

AWL’s are divided into;

• Critical Design Configuration Control Limitations (CDCCL), Airworthiness Limitation Items (ALI)

• Airworthiness limitations (AWL), Critical Design Configuration Control Limitations (CDCCL)

• All Weather Landing (AWL), Critical Design Configuration Cable Limitations (CDCCL)

The purpose of Critical Design Configuration Control Limitations (CDCCL) is:

• to make sure dual inspection carried out

• to upgrade aircraft critical features to modern technologies

• to provide instructions to ensure aircraft critical features are present throughout the life of the airplane

Airworthiness Limitation Items (ALI) in maintenance documentation are marked with

• no special markings

• warning or cautionary notes

• warning or cautionary notes in ESPM 20-30-00

Re-inspection to be performed after a break of:

• 15 minutes

• 30 minutes

• 60 minutes

In order for fire to occur which 3 elements must be present;

• combustible material, air, friction

• oxygen, paper, heat source

• fuel, ignition, oxygen

If altitude increases

• flash point will increase, and less energy (heat) is needed to ignite the mixture

• flash point will increase, and more energy (heat) is needed to ignite the mixture

• flash point will decrease, and less energy (heat) is needed to ignite the mixture
