What is a thesis statement?

• A beginning section which states the purpose and goals of the following writing. This is generally followed by the body and conclusion.

• Usually the last paragraph that raps up the entire essay. Does not just repeat the thesis statement.

• Offers a concise summary of the main point or claim of the essay It is usually expressed in one sentence. It contains the topic and the controlling idea.
