To avoid accidents while working around the welding bench, always keep electrodes stubs off the:

• table

• floor

• bench

• desk

While welding, hands should be protected with:

• talc powder

• a rag

• another piece of metal

• gloves

The greatest potential hazard to all who work with electrical equipment is exposure to:

• electric shock

• invisible radiation

• fumes

• infrared rays

The principle (main) result to exposure (electrical shock) to direct current is:

• paralyzing the muscular tissues

• serious burn

• radiation

• all of the above

When a person is shocked by electricity and is not breathing and you have determined that the source of electricity is shut off what should you do next ?

• call a doctor

• call the nurse

• treat the burn

• administer CPR

When there is a high enough voltage to overcome the resistance in your body and sufficient current flows through a vital path in the body (heart):

• a serious burn will result

• arc welding occurs

• death will result

• a delayed reaction occurs, causing welts

As with any electrical device/equipment, arc welding and arc welding equipment should not be used in:

• darkness

• a wet area

• a grounded condition

• a no-load period

Every day personal clothing that is acceptable to be worn for welding is:

• 100% cotton

• synthetic leather

• synthetic blend

• nylon clothing

When welding and using an inert gas (used to protect the weld pool as its cools from impurities and oxygen) such as argon, helium, and carbon dioxide, make sure:

• you have adequate ventilation

• you wear oily gloves

• your work is properly lighted

• you use only tungsten electrodes

If you have to weld outside your booth area what should be done prevent observers, students working next to you, the instructor or visitors who are walking through the shop from being flashed?

• use flash screens to isolate your arc flash

• say "down" before striking the arc

• be aware of people around you
