Whats the nervous system

• has 2 divisions that work together

• made up of all the bones in your body

• consist of a network of nerves that branch out to body

• consist of the brain and the spinal cord and is the control center of the body

Central Nervous System

• coordinates actions of muscles and helps maintain balence

• controls movement, senses and speech

• consists of the brain and the spinal cord and is the control center of the body

• automatic response that occurs rapidly and without conscious control

Peripheral Nervous System

• consists of a network of nerves that branch out to body

• controls involuntary actions such as breathing and heart rate

• coordinates actions of muscles and helps maintain balence

• located in the skull has 3 main regions

Spinal Cord

• controls involuntary actions such as breathing and heart rate

• is the link between the brain and the periphrial nervous system

• largest part; controls movement, the senses, speech and abstract thought

• coordinates actions of muscles and helps maintain balance

Cerebrum

• controls involuntary actions such as breathing and heart rate

• consists of the brain and the spinal cord and is the control center of the body

• coordinates actions of muscles and helps maintain balance

• controls movement, senses and speech

Reflex

• automatic response that occurs rapidly and without conscious control

• Response that can be consciously controlled

• Response that occurs after a few seconds of trauma

• The bodies defense against damage

Cerebellum

• Coordinates actions of muscles and controls balance

• Controls body's reflex

• Controls movement

• Controls speech and senses
