Initiation is when...

• You receive instruction from your client (a brief) and you establish what it is that they want.

• You get to work on building a product.

• You examine the progress made so far and evaluate what to do next.

• You create diagrams and mind maps of what it is the project will involve.

Planning is where...

• You create diagrams and prototypes for what you are going to build, in addition to working out how much time the project will take.

• You create the product and refine it as you go along.

• You analyse how well the product has been made so far and then draw up a set of features that it must now include.

• You reflect on the product once it has been completed and draw up a list of things it must also contain.

Execution is...

• When you build a product.

• When you create diagrams and time charts in order to plan out exactly how and when a project will be made.

• When you analyse how well the project has gone so far, and decide what you could do to improve it.

• When you look at other products similar to the one you are making, and decide which features you are going to include in yours.

Evaluation is...

• Where you reflect on how well a project has gone, and what could be done to improve further.

• Where you investigate other products, similar to the one you are going to make, and decide what features you could use in your own.

• Where you plan exactly what to include in a product and how long the project will take.

• Where you produce the actual product. Evaluation is just another word for getting on with it.

Success Criteria Is

• A checklist of things a finished product must include and be able to do; so that it is an overall success.

• A criteria to judge a rival product against, so that we do not make the same mistakes.

• A criteria for success. It is something that must not be included in a product if we want it to be successful.

• The steps taken to successfully completing a project e.g. Plan the product first, build the base, apply a coat of paint etc.

What is a GANTT chart.

• A chart that shows each task that must be taken in order to complete a project. They are mapped against a timescale and coloured bars are put on the chart to show at which point each task will be completed.

• A chart that shows each task that must be taken in order to complete a project. They are linked to one another in terms of what must be completed first in order for other tasks to be completed.

Why is it important to ask a client questions before starting work on a project?

• The client might have not provided enough information about their requirements and further questions help you build a bigger picture about what is required.

• The client might have given you the wrong information and you need to check with them in order to correct their mistakes.

• The client will want you to demonstrate how well you understand their brief by asking clever questions to prove this.

• The questions need to be asked to demonstrate legally that you have considered alternatives.
