Reading TEKS 4.6 A - Sequence and Summarize

What does summary NOT mean?

• should not be as long a the original text
• uses sentences that are rewritten in your own words
• shows an understanding of the meaning of the article in your own words.
• ...using the key words for the text showing that you understand the subject

Using the idea "SWBST" the helps the reader sequence the story.  But what does the "BUT" mean in the "SWBST"?

• What the character wanted?
• What was the problem?
• How the character tried to solve the problem.
• What was the resolution(outcome/ending) to the story?

Who is the character about in the SWBST?

• Somebody
• Wanted
• But
• Then

Who is the somebody in the story?

• Jill
• Jack
• Steve
• The Tooth Fairy

What did the character want?

• To have all his teeth.
• To meet the Tooth Fairy!
• He wants to lose some teeth.
• Have a burger from Hamburger Heaven

What is the main event of 

• A boy who wants more friends.
• A boy who wants loose his teeth and meet the Tooth Fairy.
• A boy who doesn't want to brush his teeth.
• A boy who will do anything to loose his teeth, just so he can meet the tooth fairy.

What do you think Jack will do in the future when it comes to his teeth?

• He will pull out his teeth and give to the tooth fairy.
• eat a bunch of candy and wait for them to fall out.
• He will take care of his teeth so he can get money from the tooth fairy when they fall out.
