A simple sentence consists of:

• a single independent clause-subject &verb
• a single independent clause- a subject
• a single independent clause-verb
• a single independent clause- named Santa

A compound sentence has:

• two or more subjects & no verbs
• two or more verbs & no subjects
• two or more dependent clauses (subject and verb but is not a complete thought)
• two or more independent clauses- subject verb &subject verb (linked by a conjunction)

A complex sentence consists of: one independent clause (subject and verb that can stand alone) AND 

• one or more dependent clauses (subject and verb that does not express a complete thought)
• another independent clause (subject and verb that can stand alone)
