Part 1: Solar System Connections to Careers
1. Exploring Careers in Astronomy
Understanding the objects in our solar system can inspire people to become astronomers or
astrophysicists. For example, studying the composition and behavior of planets and moons can help
scientists research exoplanets (planets outside our solar system). Others may design satellites that
monitor Earth’s climate.

2. Space Missions and Engineering
Space engineers design and build spacecraft that explore planets like Mars and Jupiter. These
spacecraft must survive extreme temperatures, high radiation, and long trips through space. Engineers
use their knowledge of planetary environments and materials to solve these challenges.

b) If you were an engineer, which planet would you want to design a spacecraft for? Why? ________

3. Environmental Awareness Through Planetary Comparisons
Venus has a strong greenhouse effect that traps heat, while Mars has a thin atmosphere that makes it
very cold. By comparing Earth with these planets, scientists understand how important it is to protect
our environment. This research can lead to careers in environmental science or sustainability
