BIAS


Remember bias is when you unfairly favor one side or another in an argument. Misleading statements are made, often not backed up with facts or where information is left out (omission)/taken out of context.

  • Text structure - how the text is organized...does it go in order of when things happened?

  • Rhetoric - the ability to persuade someone via speaking or writing.

  • Anaphora - repeating the same word or part of a sentence to make a point.

  • Antithesis - a contrast or opposition between two things... con=together, oppose = against - these things are together but go against each other. "All is fair in love and war." "The days are long but the years are short."

  • Chiasmus - When words are spoken out of order to draw attention to what is being said.

  • Karios - The perfect moment to deliver a message.

  • Diacope - Repeating a word or phrase with one or two words in between.

    Example: "The horror! Oh, the horror!"

Lets Talk Context

Words can change meaning depending on the context in which they are used. This is one of the hardest parts of learning any new language.

Examples -
"light"
"bark"
"run"

Why does context matter? It can change the meaning of an argument or your understanding of a text.
