  1. Write a title above the drawing.

  2. If the specimen was viewed using a microscope, write the total magnification below the drawing.

  3. Print or type the labels horizontally.

  4. Draw straight label lines using a ruler or line tool.

  5. Labels should not cross one another, and they should end inside of the structure they label.

We will be drawing a brine shrimp not their eggs, but the procedure is the same.
Use a pipette to place 1 or 2 drops of bottled water in the transparent square on a blank slide.

  1. Pipette a few brine shrimp onto the drop of water.

  2. Hold a cover slip at an angle to the slide.

  3. Lower the cover slip so that one side touches the drop of water. Then, slowly lower the rest of the cover slip onto the water's surface.

  4. Observe the slide under the microscope as you would a prepared slide.

​Note- if your brine shrimp are moving too much you may need to press the cover down a bit to keep them still

What do do with your Brine Shrimp...

Do not release live brine shrimp into any body of water or wash them into your plumbing. Brine shrimp are not native to any Pennsylvania waterway.

Throw your hatchery and all brine shrimp directly into the garbage.

Freeze the solution containing brine shrimp larvae. Then throw the block of ice in the garbage.

Pour your brine shrimp water into paper towels and place paper towles into trash.

Feed your brine shrimp to your household fish pets.

Transfer the nauplii to a prepared container to keep as pets.
