He looks for similar ideas or facts and labels them with a quick drawing.

Grouping Ideas

Liam writes a sentence for each of his big ideas using the facts he has brainstormed.

Choose a Focus

Liam looks at what he has so far and thinks about how he can add on. He will build on each fact using information from the text. He will group like facts and ideas together to keep his writing organized and easier for his reader to understand.

Using the Text

5

  • First, Liam looks in the text for information about his first fact. He thinks about what he can add to his informational writing about water being a solid, liquid, and gas.

  • He uses the table of contents to find the page on states of water. He goes to that page and looks for facts and details he can use in his writing.

  • He underlines information that he thinks is important to use for writing his paragraph about Fact 1.

  • He sees information about changing states. He knows he can use this information when writing his paragraph for Fact 3. He underlines this, too.
