BASIC EDITING

All stories are made and broken in the delivery. 

For broadcast journalism, the delivery all comes down to the edit. 

• What you say. 

• When you say it.

• How you pace it. 

​Discussion:
​​What did you notice?  What did they do well with storytelling? What mistakes did they make? Talk about the reporter's presence (their voice) and their writing (the words they said). How was their vocal delivery? How did it help to tell the story? Is this a good story? Why or why not?

What is the difference between a News Story and a Feature Story?

Focus on the following questions...

• Did the story have a conversational or formal tone? Does that tone fit the topic?

• Is this story timely? Did it need to be?

• What was included in the story? Facts? Images? Dates? Numbers? 

• Talk about the audio and video components of these stories. How are each different? 

• If you had to turn this story into the other type of story (news into feature; feature into news), would it work? Why or why not?
