BASIC EDITING

3

All stories are made and broken in the delivery.

For broadcast journalism, the delivery all comes down to the edit.

  • What you say.

  • When you say it.

  • How you pace it.

Discussion:

  • What did you notice?

  • What did they do well with storytelling?

  • What mistakes did they make?

  • Talk about the reporter's presence (their voice) and their writing (the words they said). How was their vocal delivery? How did it help to tell the story?

  • Is this a good story? Why or why not?

  • Is this story timely? Did it need to be?

  • What was included in the story? Facts? Images? Dates? Numbers?
