Case study

The attack occurred on April the 7th of 2018, in Douma, 43 individuals lost their lives in a rebel-held town close to Damascus, while several more were injured. The Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) stated that the Syrian government forces were those responsible for releasing two yellow cylinder-shaped containers filled with poisonous chlorine gas over Douma’s residential districts. This act of terrorism and violence was a vulnerating to the international law and to the agreements made in the Non-Proliferation treaty for the different kinds that were classified as massive destruction weapons; and the Chemical Weapons Convention, which forbids the use of these. The incident prompted intense worldwide anger and resulted in airstrikes by France, Britain, and the United States against sites held by the Syrian government.
