Italian Renaissance: Art and Science
2
Let's Talk About Art
Italian Renaissance Art was marked by a widespread desire to gain knowledge and focus on humanism. This means that there is a huge focus on the humans in the paintings and sculptures. Artists focused on how the people they were painting were feeling and also painted them in everyday situations doing everyday things (not posed like a lot of other art).
Art was viewed as a way of expressing yourself and often merged with feelings of religion, philosophy, and science.

A polish mathematician and scientist who developed helio-centrism (the idea that the sun was the center of the universe). Prior to his research, the Earth was thought to be the center of the universe. He also made pretty close calculations of the distance of each planet from the sun.
Nicolaus Copernicus

Galileo created a telescope that helped in the study of the planets, stars, and sky.
Galileo also studied gravity and inertia (in-er-shuh) and supported heliocentrism. However, because he believed the sun was the center of the universe (and not God) he was placed under house arrest and many of his writings were banned from reaching the public.
