  • Is a Complete Thought

  • Complete Sentence: The boy ate a sandwich.

Run-on Sentence

  • Two or more sentences combined WITHOUT proper punctuation

  • The little girl ate a ham sandwich and the sad boy watched hungrily. Run-on NO comma!

  • The little girl ate a ham sandwich, and the sad boy watched hungrily. Correct sentence - comma before conjuction

  • Two or more sentences combined with comma but NO conjunction.

  • The dog slipped out of his leash, he ran away from his owner. Incorrect Comma but NO conjunction

  • The dog slipped out of his leash, and he ran away from his owner. Correct - comma AND coordinating conjunction (also known as a FANBOYS conjunction)
