Fill in the Blank

There were 160 jelly beans in the bag. 35% of the jelly beans were purple.
How many were purple?

8

How did you do?

Part = percent/100 x whole

Be sure to change the percent to a decimal (by dividing by 100).

0.38 x 150 =
0.08 x 52 = (be sure you have 0.08 and not 0.8--which is 80%, not 8%)
0.35 x 160 =

9

whole = part / (percent/100)

Turn the percent into a decimal first, by dividing by 100.

Fill in the Blank

Tyson made 4 three-point shots in his basketball game.
That was 40% of the total shots he took. How many shots did Tyson take in his game?

13

How did you do?

Whole = part / (percent/100)

Be sure to change the percent to a decimal (by dividing by 100) first...before dividing the part by the percent.

32 / 0.40=
120/ 0.75=
4/ 0.40 =

How did you do?

  1. Find the percentage. Add up the known percents (40+20+15 = 75). Since circle graphs total 100%, then you can subtract 75% to get the remaining percent.

  2. Find the part. 20% of 150, which is 0.20 x 150=

  3. Find the whole. 50 is 20%, which is 50/0.20 =
